Efficient metering will reduce Discos’ debts – MEMMCOL
Standardised metering will not only help power distributors to accurately bill and make correct planning for the amount of power consumed, but will also make it imperative for entities that had not found reason to pay for energy, like government parastatals and consumers who live in military and paramilitary barracks, to begin to pay like many other citizens.
The Chairman, MOMAS Electric Meters Manufacturing Company Limited, Mr. Kola Balogun, said this while responding to an endorsement letter from the Electricity Management Services Limited on the company’s operations.
Balogun also said efficient metering would help consumers to monitor their own consumption rate and conserve energy.
EMSL is one of the successor organisations of the former Power Holding Company of Nigeria, charged with the sustained technical inspection, testing and certification of all electrical equipment, power systems and electrical installations in the Nigerian electricity industry.
EMSL, in its letter, commended the products, the processes and the manufacturing facilities of MEMMCOL, which is a foremost indigenous manufacturer of modern electricity meters.
The MEMMCOL chairman expressed joy over the recognition of the company’s contribution to the development of the Nigerian economy as a whole and the fast-tracking of the growth of the power sector in Nigeria.
He said, “The report is a source of inspiration for us as an indigenous company operating in this sector. It is a boost to our firm’s desire to bring power supply in the country to the level of excellence that you can find anywhere in the world.
“We know that standardised metering will not only help power distributors to accurately bill, but will also make it imperative for entities that had not found reason to pay for energy like government parastatals and consumers who live in military and paramilitary barracks to begin to pay like many other citizens.”
Following a certification inspection tour of the MEMMCOL meter factory in Ogun State, which was carried out in May this year by officials of EMSL, the government agency commended the company for the cutting-edge technology and state-of-the art equipment that it is deploying for the manufacturing of meters in the factory.
In the certification report made available to the company, EMSL expressed satisfaction with the state of 13 units of the manufacturing flow process of the company, observing that they are well constructed and adequately maintained.
The body also praised the expertise of the personnel of the company and the standards and conditions of the machines utilised in the production process.
